Anthrozoology encompasses many fields of research; it crosses scientific boundaries and draws from a broad range of disciplines.

Psychologists, psychiatrists, political scientists, social scientists, cardiologists, medical scientists, allied health scientists, behavioural scientists and veterinarians have all contributed to the body of literature that exists in anthrozoology.

Examples of anthrozoological research include:

Dog ownership and human health-related physical activity
investigating the link between companion animals, physical health and psychological health
use of animals in therapy for human illness (Animal Assisted Therapy)
animals, allergies and zoonoses
the concept of "attachment"
companion animals and childhood immune function
identifying the link between pet ownership and reduction of cardiovascular risk factors
cruelty to animals and the link to domestic violence
companion animals as social facilitators

The Petcare Information and Advisory Service Australia Pty Ltd (PIAS) sponsors this site as part of its charter.

The Petcare Information and Advisory Service Australia Pty Ltd (PIAS) was established in 1966 as an autonomous, non-commercial organisation committed to promoting socially responsible pet ownership.

Funding is provided by Mars Petcare as a community service and PIAS has as its charter:

To educate owners on the responsibilities of pet ownership.
To undertake original research on the relationship between man and companion animals.
To ensure accurate and reliable information is available to all interested parties on pet related issues.
To encourage pet ownership in balance with society's needs, and help owners enjoy their pets.
To provide information on and encourage the correct care of pets.

PIAS has joint membership of IAHAIO with Delta Society Australia inc.
